Solange Knowles (Who's Who Vol. 002)

Kendisi de müzisyen olan Solange, Knowles kardeşlerin daha az tanınanı. Ama onu konuk etmemin nedeni müziği değil, muhteşem zevki... Solange'ın tarzı dalgalı saçları, vücudu saran daracık veya minicik elbiseleri ile Beyonce'nin ihtişamlı tarzın çok farklı, çok daha özgün. Bence stilinin en güçlü yanı çoğu zaman köklerinden gurur duyarak Afro tarzında doğal bıraktığı saçları. Afro saçlarının yanısıra Afrika desenlerini de kıyafetlerin de sıkça kullanarak bütünlük yaratıyor. Gerektiğinde de tek omuzlu dümdüz beyaz bir elbiseyle de sahneyi çalabiliyor. The   lesser known of the Knowles sisters, Solange is a singer too. However, her style is what struck me. She is on a completely different track from Beyonce who is into big ironed out curly waves, glamourous and figure hugging nightgowns and the whole show business thing. I have always had a fascination of the Afro hair style and Solange rocks it so damn proudly. She usually adds other elements of her African-American heritage into her slamming wardrobe as well. Nerede O Eski Peplum'lar (Vintage Peplum)

On a sudden whim to wear something different, I somehow picked from some of the oldest stuff in my closet. The dress is a 10 year old favorite that I haven't worn in more than 5 years while the peplum jacket is from a 90 year old relative and is probably from 1950's. It's completely original down to the buttons but due to a small yet stubborn stain on the chest area, I added the small pearl beads all over it to cover it up. I usually don't get dressed fancily but it was a special occasion and I went over the top with accessories too. Eid Mubarak to all who celebrate. Special thanks to cousin L-lo for the pictures and Kitty for the guest appearance.

Değişik birşey giyineyim derken elim hep eskilere gitti dün. Başrolde belki beş yıldır giymediğim 10 yıllık romantik detaylı elbise ve 1950'lerden kalmış olması kuvvetle muhtemel peplum ceket vardı. Ceket düğmelerine kadar orijinal, sadece yaka kısmında inatçı bir leke ile başedemeyince kendisini minik inci boncuklarla bezeyerek kapattım. Genelde bu kadar süslü bir insan değilimdir ama çifte kutlamalı bir gün olduğundan bulabildiğim en abartılı kolyeyi de eklemeden duramadım. Umarım bayramınız nerede o eski bayramlar dedirtmeyecek kadar kahkaha ve neşe dolu geçiyordur. Resimler için kuzen L-lo'ya ve katılımı için konuk oyuncumuz Mırnav'a teşekkürler..

MTV icat oldu, moda ve müzik ayrılmaz, rockstarlar ve top modeller kliplerde tanışıp birer birer çift oldu. İlklerden biri de Duran Duran'di.

New Wave (Screenshopping Saturday Vol. 003)

İnatçı bir Akrep burcu olarak bir çok konuda kararlı ve güçlü olabiliyorum ama söz konusu ayakkabılar olunca Aşil tendonuma çok yakın yerden vuruyorlar, bir türlü karşı koyamıyorum. (Yakınlarda yaptığım bir temizlik sonrasında haddinden fazla ayakkabıya sahip olduğuma karar verince bundan sonra aldığım her yeni ayakkabı için eskilerden birisini elden çıkarma kuralı koydum kendime. Böylece evi ele geçirmelerini engelliyebilirim belki.) Neyse, bu Cumartesi'nin konusu Guiseppe Zanotti'nin Sonbahar 2012 koleksiyonundan "Wave" koleksiyonu. İnanılmaz sade ve de seksi hatlı bu sandaletler siyah süet ve son yılların gözdesi altın renginde dalga/yılan formlu metal  aksesuardan oluşuyor. Hem jeanlerin hem de gece kıyafetlerinin altında muhteşem olacaklarını düşünüyorum. Bakalım taklitleri üretilecek mi?

As a stubborn Scorpio, I can be dedicated and willful when it comes to many things but when the subjest matter is shoes, that's a hit too close to my Achilles' heel (pun intended) and I cannot resist temptation. (After a recent closet clean though, I decided that I maybe can stop their hostile take-over of the house by throwing out/giving away a pair when I buy a new one.) Anyhow, this Saturday's screenshopping subjects are the Wave sandals by Guiseppe Zanotti (Fall 2012 collection). These sandals are unbelievably simpke and sexy in black suede and gold colored accents (so popular in the last few seasons) in a wave/snake shape. They would lokk great paired with jeans or dresses when going out. I'll be on the look-out for any high-street look-alikes..

Obsessed Vol. 01 - Neon Necklace

Benim olsa ne kadar sık giyerim bilmiyorum ama bu kolye ilk gördüğümden beri rüyalarımı süslüyor ve bugün tesadüfen Etsy'de buldum. Eski kolyelerin elde boyanması ile yapılmış. İnanılmaz değil mi? I don't know know how often I would actually wear it if I had it but this necklace has been in my dreams ever since I saw it on pinterest. I accidentally stumled upon it while surfing Etsy, today. It's made by had painting the rhinestones on vintage necklaces. Isn't it amazeballs? DIY your own Tom Binns :) You can order it here or you can DIY it (please make one for me too).

Helen Gurley Brown, The Original Sex & The City Girl

Tirajı yerlerde sürünen bir dergi iken Cosmopolitan'ı küllerinden doğuran editör  Helen Gurley Brown 90 yaşında hayata veda etti.  Helen "Sex and the Single Girl"(1962) ve “Sex in the Office” (1966) gibi kitapları kaleme aldığında 90'ların ünlü TV karakteri Carrie daha portakalda vitamin bile değildi. Helen Gurley Brown, the editor who skyrocketed the sales figures of Cosmpolitan back in 1965 when the magazine was financially struggling, passed away at the age of 90. With book titles like "Sex and the Single Girl"(1962) and “Sex in the Office” (1966), Helen must have been smiling smugly and thinking "been there, done that" while watching Carrie Bradshaw on TV. Although her  "tips" to women were frowned upon by the feminists of the era, some argue her ideas to be in fact quite in line with the feminist ideals. For a more detailed read, go here.

Fall Inspiration

Yazlık kıyafetlerin uçuculuğu, hafifliği ve rahatlığını o kadar çok seviyorum ki kışın ortasında İlkbahar-Yaz koleksiyonları mağazalarda yerini aldığında hemen hevesle neler çıkmış bakarım, hatta aylarca o parçayı giyemeyeceğimi bile bile çoğu zaman alırım da. Ama tam tersine havalar güneşli ve sıcakken, ne elim ne de gözüm Sonbahar-Kış koleksiyonlarına gider. Değil satın almak, yünlülere dokunmak, ne derileri denemek isterim.

Kışlık kıyafetler komplike ve can sıkıcıdır. Kombin dertleri başlar. Boğazlı kazaklar sıkar, acaba bu yıl içine girebilecek miyim diye kalın pantolonlara girme düşüncesi bile beynimi kemirir, her sabah külotlu çorap giyme fikri depresyona sokar. "Bu palto bu pantolonla olmaz, bu botlar bu etekle bişeye benzemedi, bu trenchcoatun içine ceket giydiğimde kollarım robot gibi oluyor, akşam çok kar yağarsa topuklu giymemem lazım ama bu pantolon topuklu olmadan palyaçoya benzetiyor, vs, vs."  

Kısacası kış için giyinmekten hiç hazzetmiyorum ama bu kombin beni benden aldı. Neyseki yün ekose peplum etekli kısa trench, balık kılçığı desenli, kocaman cepli yün kalem etek ve her gardobun elzem parçası eğlenceli baykuş t-shirt ile son derece pahallı köpek taşıma aparatından oluşan bu kombinin yaklaşık 45.000 TL civarındaki maliyeti bu sıcakta Burberry'ye koşmamı engelledi.

I love summer dressing so much so that the minute the Spring-Summer collections hit the stores, I run to the stores and buy pieces that I won't be able to wear for months to come. However, the opposite does not hold for me usually. I dread looking at the Fall-Winter collections let alone touch or try them when the sun is still shining and the weather is warm. The thought of  bundling up in clothing depresses me. 

No matter how cool and in they are, cold weather appearel is complicated and dreaded. You (I) get all sorts of styling issues. Turtlenecks squeeze the life of you, the mental image of trying to fit into your thick pants from previous years eat away your brains, the never ending routine of finding clean and flawless pantyhose day in and day out causes daily breakdowns. "This coat doesn't go with this coat, these boats make me look like a peasant with this skirt, I get robot arms whenever I try tp wear a jacket underneath this trenchcoat, I must not wear heels for the evening's expected snowstorm but these pants make me look like a clown with heels, etc, etc."  

In short, I loathe dressing myself for the cooler weather but this editorial image has just won me over. Fortunately though, the approximate grand total of over 30.000 USD budget of the short trench jacket with check peplum in wool, the wool herringbone pencil skirt with huge pockets and cute little buttons and the "basic" owl t-shirt with the exotic dog carrying apparatus that probably costs more than my car, has conveniently deterred me from running to the nearest Burberry Prorsum.

Margherita, anyone? (Who's Who Vol. 001)

Kim kimdir köşesinde ilk konuk Missoni imparatorluğunun varisi Margherita Missoni. Margherita İtalyanca  papatya anlamına geliyor.  1983 doğumlu bu güzel bir dönem modellik yaptı ve sanırım halen Missoni'nin marka elçisi.  Kendisini ilk olarak Elle'in 2002 sayısındaki bir editorial'da görmüş ve kırmızı beyazlı kaftanına hayran kalmıştım. Hala o zamanki kadar doğal bir güzelliği var. Haziran ayında çingene konseptinde bir düğün ile Eugene Amos ile evlendi. Margherita'nın rahat tarzında genelde bohem, çingene veya hippi karışımı elementler mutlaka bulunuyor. Saçına taktığı romantik aksesuarlar, aynı kombin içerisinde birden çok desen kullanımı (genetik bir özellik olmalı) ve maksi etekler Margherita'nın adeta imzası.

Born in 1983 in Italy, M.M. was a model and is the brand ambassador for Missoni. I saw her first in an Elle editorial in 2002 and fell completely in love with her red and white caftan. She still retains that child-like natural beauty. And yet she married racecar driver Eugene Amos in June this year with a gypsy themed wedding in Italy. Her refreshing style always includes a bohemian, gypsy or hippie element to it. Romantic hair accessories, mixing prints (must be a hereditary trait) and maxi length dresses/skirts are her signatures in most of her unique outfits.

Shoesday Vol. 002 - Leopard Paws

80'lerde büyümüş bir çocuk olarak uzun yıllar leopar deseni ile arama mesafe koydum. Son bir kaç yılda ise bazıları beni inceden sarmaya başladı. Bu sevda yaşlanmanın 10 işareti arasına rahatlıkla girer sanırım. Leopar deseni bence özellikle aksesuarda rahatlıkla kullanılabilecek bir desen ve nötr renklerle kombinleri eforsuz şıklık yaratıyor. Ama bugün tüm bu dediklerimin tersini yaparak cart kırmızı bir pantolonu, leopar deseni ayakkabılar ve gömlekle kombinledim. Ne diyebilirim ki, kendime bile muhalefetim bazen.

As a product of growing up in the 80's, I have been quite skeptical towards leopard print anything. However, in the last couple of years, jungle fever caught up with me. This love of animal prints may be amongst the first 10 tell-tale signs of aging.  Leopard print is especially fun and easy to use in accessories and helps create eye catching but simple outfits when styled with neutral colors. However, I went ahead and did the exact opposite of this and paired my bright red jeans with leopard ballerina flats and a leopard print blouse. Such a rebel I am.
