Shoesday Vol. 001 - Meet Artizen

Modeller dönem filmlerinden çıkmış gibi, Chocolate'tan Viane , Cinema Paradiso'dan Elena, Pride and Prejudice'ten Elizabeth Bennet'e layıklar. Vitrine bakarken birden kendinizi Güney İtalya'da 1930'larda tahta kapısı gıcırdayarak açılan küçük bir ayakkabı atölyesinin içinde hissedebilirsiniz. Ben en çok çift renkli Oxford'ları, yaprak şeklindeki sandaletleri, dantelden yapılma loaferları ve şeker rengindeki ev ayakkabısı, babet karışımlarını sevdim.

Hoşuma giden ayakkabıları denerken sohbet ettiğim kişi Artizen'in kurucusu Ayşe Nil Çağlayan'mış.

Kanyon giriş katında arka koridordaki pop-up store şimdilik Ocak ayına kadar açık.

I noticed Artizen while strolling around Kanyon yesterday. Instead of the the vertiginous platforms and the studded, glittery shoes that we are so used to seeing these days, the shop window was filled with down-to-earth classical and vintage looking shoes. I can imagine each pair from a different period movie like on Viane from Chocolate, Elena from Cinema Paradiso and of course on Elizabeth Bennet from Pride and Prejudice. When looking at the shop window, you can easily imagine yourself  in a small 1930's village in the South of Italy with creaking wooden floors. What I loved the most were the bi-colored brogues, sandals in the form of leaves, loafers made with lace and cotton candy coloured slipper/loafer, ballerina mixes.

As I was trying on the different pairs, I realized that the lady who was helping me out was the designer of the brand, whom I later googled to be Ayşe Nil Çağlayan. She started Artizen to preserve craftsmanship in shoe-making. We had a small chat about the different materials and tips for finding the right pair of shoes. All of the shoes are made locally in İstanbul from %100 natural materials. What I loved most about them is that they showcase the shoe makers on Artizen's website as well as other contributors. This shows their respect for craftsmanship. Each model is named after the designer's friends. Finding a pair of Helin's made my day.

The pop-up store at Kanyon's entrance level is open until January, for now. They have sizes upto 41 and can even produce half sizes on special order with no extra cost, you just have to wait a little for hand-made goodness. Moreover, the prices are quite reasonable despite the hand-made production with quality materials. Artizen is definitely worth a visit.

High Street Haul

Each year I swear to stay clear of the Mango, Zara, etc. sales, so that I can save up for higher end staples and fail to do so, if I must add. This year, I had to give in during the late closing hours at Kanyon Mango store for Istanbul Shopping Fest. These dresses were a steal and I scooped them up in 20 minutes while they were trying to close the store for the night. They are all life savers and I have different styling ideas for them, some of them are below. Which one do you like the best?

Ruhumda deniz var. O yüzden çizgililer her yere gider.   Doğru aksesuarlarla ister haftasonu sahile, ister haftaiçi ofise. Ben şimdilik ofiste kullandım. Etek kısmındaki sarı çizgiye bayıldım.
Mango - Bahriyeli Tarz Çizgili Elbise - Navy Striped Dress
The sea is a part of my soul. So nautical stripes go everywhere, to the office during the week, to weekend outings on the sea. I test drove this baby to the office, twice in the same week. Love the yellow accent near the hemline.
Ofiste tam bir kurtarıcı. Tiril tiril kumaşı ile uzun kollarını telafi ediyor. Henüz test edilmeyi bekliyor.
Mango -  Kayık Yakalı Elbise - Boat Neck Dress
A true life saver for these smelting days at the office. The breathing fabric makes up for the 3/4's sleeves. This one is waiting her turn for work day.

The ideal cut and pattern for a comfort and laid back chic. She accompanied me to a very pleasant dinner on Saturday.
