Gia Coppola's Personal Style (Who's Who Vol. 004)

Meet Gia Coppola. It isn't difficult to guess that she is the granddaughter of Francis Ford Coppola and the apple did not fall from the tree, yet again. Just like Sofia, Gia has chosen a career in film behind the camera. She made her first directorial debut at the 2013 Venice Film Festival with the movie "Palo Alto", written by James Franco. Her red carpet photo with the Saint Laurent suit struck me (second photo below) and so I decided to google her personal style. These are some of the looks I came across.  I love her boyish, simplistic approach to style and her repeated use of basic colors like black, navy, gray, cream and the occasional use of a bold red or leopard.  The black leather skirt and blue men's shirt is also another favorite of mine. Those who got it right at MTV Video Music Awards

After reading Didem Antebi's post about those who got MTV's Video Music Awards (VMA) so horribly wrong, I wanted to see if anyone actually got it right. I think it was no coincidence that it was the models who rocked the right attitude. After all, they are constantly dressed in the flamboyant couture attires and thus, do not care for them much. So, they'd much rather rock the red carpet.

My favorite is Coca Rocha in Fausto Puglisi with her awesome new hair cut, followed by Joan Smalls who has accessorized that cool Viktor&Rolf dress with Casadei gladiator sandals and the right amount of gold . Erin Wasson on the other gets poins for provocation, though I had totally pictured this Alexandre Vauthier dress on Rihanna for the night.

Met Gala - High Fashion Punk: An Oxymoron of the Highest Degree

Dubbed in the 1970's, punk was an alternative lifestyle that revolved around music and rebellion. The lifestyle had it's own "fashion". Punk rockers pretty much created their visual reference points through styling themselves with disheveled hair, neon died, mohawk up-do's, safety pins to hold up thorn up bits of clothing or even as earrings, worker boots, razor blade accessories, ripped fishnets, garments made out of trash bags, skinny ties, leather pants, ripped t-shirts and most of all a bad attitude.  Since they were anti-establishment, they despised anything commercial and DIY'ed their own clothes and would hate the fact that today, on May 6th, fashion's upper echelons will descend on the steps of New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art for the annual 2013 Costume Benefit a.k.a. the Met Gala honouring the museum's "Punk: Chaos to Couture" exhibit with 5 digit looks. Just look at the Hermes bag below going for above 15.000 Euro at modaoperandi.

 

Despite the against-the-punk-spirit, I'm curiously waiting for the haute-punk outfits tonight. It'll definitely be a rocking red carpet. This year's co-chairs are Rooney Mara, Lauren Santo Domingo, Riccardo Tisci, and Anna Wintour. I'm expecting Rooney Mara to show up in Givenchy, Anna Wintour in Chanel, Lauren Santo Domingo (LSD) in Rodarte or Vivienne Westwood. I'm also curious to see Taylor Tomasi Hill, Rihanna, Gwnyth Paltrow, Kate Moss, Who are you looking forward to see?

Magic Carpet Ride - amFAR New York Gala 2013

The Foundation for Aids Research - amFAR Fashion Against AIDS Gala honored Kenneth Cole, Janet Jackson and Heidi Klum this year for their exceptional contributions to the fight against AIDS. It's one of my favorite red carpet events because so many models and fashion faces attend each year. Here are my favorites below: dont'you just love how fresh Karlie Kloss is, Doutzen Kroes' fun attitude and Sarah Jessica Parker's bohemian chic in Maison Martin Margiela? 

AİDS Araştırmaları Vakfı - amFAR Fashion Against AIDS Gala'sı bu yıl AIDS ile mücadeledeki katkılarından dolayı Kenneth Cole, Janet Jackson ve Heidi Klum'un onuruna düzenlendi. Bir çok model ve modacının katılımı dolayısıyla en sevdiğim kırmızı halılardan biri. Beğendiklerim aşağıda: özellikle Karlie Kloss'un kısa saçı ve muhteşem bacaklarıyla harika gözüken kısa Michael Kors elbisesini, Doutzen Kroes'in elbisesi içindeki sevimliliğini ve Sarah Jessica Parker'ın Maison Martin Margiela içindeki bohem şıklığına bayıldım.

Magic Carpet Ride - SAG 2013

SAG Awards red carpet looks were a bit dull, to say the least. Most of the looks were just run-of-the-mill evening gowns. Here are some of the better ones... It's interesting how all of them are column dresses except for a Christian Dior piece. 

SAG Ödül Törenindeki kıyafetlerin çok çok sıkıcıydı. Bir çok düğünde buradakilerden daha şık görünümler bulmak mümkün. Şimdi daha iyicelerine göz atalım. Bir Dior dışında hepsi dümdüz inen kesimlere sahip ve elbisenin kendisinden çok hatların güzelliği ile hoş duran elbiseler.  

Ellie Kemper - Reem Acra 
- That color is simply gorgeous on that skin tone and the dress fits so well too. 
- Bu cilt tonuna bu renk muhteşem, ayrıca vücuda oturuşu da pek bir hoş, pek hanım hanımcık. 

Helen Hunt - Romona Keveza 
- OK, it's the simplest dress ever but Helen just shines through in it. 
- Çok basit bir elbise olabilir ama Helen'e çok yakışmış, bu kadar payete rağmen parıltıların mat olması artı. 

Jaimie Alexander - Marc Bouwer 
- The upper half is daring but the fabric makes it look a bit cheap. 
- Kumaş ve alt bedendeki büzgülere bayılmasam da, üst kısmı hoşuma gitti.  

Kerry Washington - Rodarte 
- Gorgeous dress, the armour like bodice is amazing in terms of shape and craftsmanship. 
- Önden kesinlikle muhteşem bir elbise. Yakanın kesimi ve işçilik çok güzel.  

Marion Cotillard - Christian Dior 
- This is the only non-column dress that I like, most probably because it has pockets. Pockets are awesome, I'm a sucker for pockets in skirts and dresses. I had even thought of adding pockets to my wedding dress. 
- Bu elbise favorilerimin içindeki tek kabarık etekli olan. Neden favorilerime girdiğini de çok iyi biliyorum, çünkü cepleri var. Cepli etek ve elbiselere her zaman bayılmışımdır. Bir an için gelinliğime bile cep diktirmeyi düşünmüş bir insanım ben. Çuvala cep koysunlar, giyerim.  

Katrina Bowden - Badgley Mischka 
- Gorgeous dress, can'tsay the same thing about the clutch. It's too big for the red carpet. 
- Elbise çok güzel ama clutch olmamış, kırmızı halı için fazla büyük. 

Maria Menounos - Randi Rahm 
- The colour and the low-cut back are so amazing. 
- Renk ve derin sırt dekoltesi muhteşem. Taşıyana da bravo. 

Nina Dobrev - Elie Saab 
- This is my favorite look from the night. Colour and the lace windows are so lovely. Nina Dobrev has the perfect body and posture for it, maybe better than most models. Her accessories are all very fitting choices as well. 
- Bu benim geceden en favori seçimim. Nina Dobrev'in vücut yapısı ve inanılmaz duruşu elbisenin rengini, kesimini ve dantel panelleri ortaya çıkaran en önemli unsur. Birçok mankenden daha iyi taşıyor elbiseyi. Aksesuar seçimi de kusursuz olunca beğenmeyecek hiç bir şey kalmıyor ortada.
