Those who got it right at MTV Video Music Awards

After reading Didem Antebi's post about those who got MTV's Video Music Awards (VMA) so horribly wrong, I wanted to see if anyone actually got it right. I think it was no coincidence that it was the models who rocked the right attitude. After all, they are constantly dressed in the flamboyant couture attires and thus, do not care for them much. So, they'd much rather rock the red carpet.

My favorite is Coca Rocha in Fausto Puglisi with her awesome new hair cut, followed by Joan Smalls who has accessorized that cool Viktor&Rolf dress with Casadei gladiator sandals and the right amount of gold . Erin Wasson on the other gets poins for provocation, though I had totally pictured this Alexandre Vauthier dress on Rihanna for the night.

I have shared my adoration for Alexandre Vauthier's creations here before. He has once again hit my soft spot with his couture collection for Fall 2013. To me, most of his designs are timeless pieces that you can hang in a museum. While his dresses are ultra provocative and sexy, his sleek pants and pantsuits are just as so. I love the confidence that comes from the well-placed "slashes" in the most strategic places. Although there were some blue gowns with way too much embellishment on them, reimnding me of Balmain knock-offs, the clean lines of the rest of his collection make me overlook those few pieces. My favorite looks are below. I especially love the pantsuit in the second photo and the dresses in the fifth (my absolute favorite as it looks amazingly fresh) and the very last dresses. 

Alexandre Vauthier Spring Summer 2013

While NYFW is already underway, I'm still catching up with the Paris couture shows. Alexander Vauthier's collection is quite noteworthy with an abundance of pants, all-black palette with sleek gold accents for the neck, wait and ankles. There are sharp edges and slits everywhere as well as tuxedo details and daring placement of see-through materials. Another collection which I cannot wait to see on the red carpet.. Would look good on Gwenyth Paltrow and Cate Blanchett.
